The seats look nothing like that on Phoenixs Solos.

Same shape, might have been the older design of the seat, different colours, I wasn't paying much attention, as the driver was playing loud music.

Interesting that they've still got the Cadet(s) - had assumed they would have binned them by now!

That should make it a lot easier to get round Seaburn Morrisons for the Friday morning shop! What will the old folk do now?

Have I missed something? Is the company losing secured work?

They lost the 73 and 515/558 last year (GCT was awarded with the contract), and are to lose the 79/79A next Sunday (GNE taking over commercially by extending current 238).

Well, at least 4 of their fleet still operating in and out of Morrisons Seaburn an hour or so ago!

Guess you're talking about the little minibuses, though?

They still have all of that community work, plus the Royal Hospital Park & Ride services. I know they used to do a weekly run from Plains Farm Primary School to Sandhill View to transport scholars to the swimming pool at Sandhill - this used to use one of the minibuses which ran onto the 37 / 8X later that day. Unsure if it still happens - was a good six or seven years ago when I last had the pleasure! Wink

What a shame for there drivers.

RE: Compass Community Transport - Adrian - 23 May 2015

When the 73 and 515/558 was awarded to another operator, TUPE should have applied for Compass drivers to transfer over. I highly doubt this would apply to the 79/79A, as it's not a transfer of work so to speak.

I'm not sure how many drivers would have been left to operate the 79/79A in any case?

Does TUPE always apply though. The amount of contracts that change hands all the time with the likes of nexus I would be suprised the bus companies knew who worked for then.  The last TUPE i heard of was 2010 with the quaylink but think TUPE applied due to the council involvement on contracts

It's a service provision transfer, i.e. the contract/work being awarded to another company, so TUPE would apply.

It does not always happen.  If Stagecoach win a contract from us lets say the evening 56's, Stagecoach would cover that with their own staff and no one from GNE would go to Stagecoach.

Is that not because the work transferring out would not put any employees at risk of redundancy, as they wouldn't spend the majority of their working week on the evening 56's? Whereas I wouldn't expect an independent to have such luxuries as redeploying staff onto other contracts.

Yup, it all depends on the contract, so TUPE does not apply in every case.

RE: Compass Community Transport - Andreos1 - 26 May 2015

Had a go on a late 79A the other night, with it not being long until the service ends.

Managed to get a ride on YJ04 for the first time.
Not sure about the backing to the seats, but the 'bum' bit, was very comfy.
As with most Cadets, I was expecting its dashboard to look like a Christmas tree. Although, when I checked, the only 'issue', I could spot, was the ABS light

Trying to earwig between the driver and inebriated enthusiast chatting to him, was entertaining and from what I could gather.
* The Solo allocated to the route had failed.
* All vehicles are up for sale.
* Staff are on their way.

On my part of the route, 15 people (including myself) used the service, getting on or off.
I didn't do the full route, so there may have been others, in addition to the 15.
Not bad for a late night run.

15 isn't bad, especially when the route isn't very long, hopefully the numbers go up when GNE take over it, especially when GNE will accept their own tickets.

I would say roughly 5 of the 15 were paying passengers.
Whilst the offer of a day ticket may attract passengers to the 239, the revenue taken could actually fall, compared to the money taken from the 5 cash fares.

If 2 or 3 from those 5 use a buzzfare, over a cash fare, all of a sudden, the run is £7 or £8 down.
It doesn't seem much, but on a service where margins aren't going to be massive...

It is like last X1 (and many more) out of Newcastle on a night.
A relatively full decker, picking people up and dropping them off all along the route, typically only a couple of cash fares. Not sure how it makes a profit.

RE: Compass Community Transport - whitebus - 26 May 2015
