A historic Sunderland pub has been sold - and regulars say they have been told it will close within days.

A spokesman for The Londonderry Hotel, in High Street West, confirmed it was changing hands but not what would happen afterwards.

Whereabouts is it in the MetroCentre? As I didn't see it when I had a quick wander round yesterday morning. May make a trip to Sunderland sometime soon.

It's where the Fenwick at Christmas was opposite Jack and Jones in the Platinum Mall I think.

The Avenue Vivian properties were the ones I mentioned in the GNE latest thread the other week, that saw the 36 diverted.

Part of Sunderland road to be closed for weekend next month as part of New Wear Crossing works

A 300-metre section of a Sunderland road is to be closed early next month.

The stretch of Timber Beach/Hylton Park Road will be closed between the entrance to DW Fitness and entrance to the old RTC car park on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7.

Works to start on A690.

The original plan of blocking off Newbottle and Wardle Law exits has been axed, in favour of a no-right turn

Not from the area so don't really know the road, will this "No right turn" make the road better?

Not sure about better, but it should make that junction safer.
To provide some balance, the change at the junction may have a knock-on effect on other local roads. As an example, people heading back towards Sunderland or the A19 from the family farm or go-kart track at Wardle Law, will now need to find an alternative route to the A19 or Sunderland. 3 out of 4 options will now involve going through residential areas (Seaton, Hall Lane, Doxford Park or A690 to Houghton and then doubling back on themselves).

So if there's no right turns allowed then does that mean it might aswell be closed. As you can't turn left into on coming traffic

I have had a drink Acky, so may have misunderstood you.

If coming from Newbottle - you can go left towards Doxford Interchange, straight on towards Warden Law or right towards Houghton.
With the changes, you are restricted to a left turn only. The junction is still open.

At least one pair of semi's have now gone and been demolished. It was the one gutted by fire.

Not sure if this went before the planning application or not...
