Vehicle History

June 2020 Go North East With most scholars services in Tyne & Wear returning to operation from Monday 15 June, re-allocations have taken place to accommodate the operation of all of these services. Services 13 and 25 at Chester-le-Street will now be operated by single-deck vehicles to assist in the release of double-deck vehicles for scholars. As such, this vehicle has been reinstated at Chester-le-Street Depot.
June 2020 Go North East From Monday 1 June 2020, in line with guidance from the government, Go North East's bus services will start returning to what can be considered a 'normal' level of service on weekdays (albeit still reduced on weekends), also with some minor changes which had originally been planned to take place from 17 May 2020. As such, this vehicle has now been re-licensed, but remains out of service.
April 2020 Go North East Following completion of all required vehicle re-allocations; this vehicle has been temporarily withdrawn from service due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been officially delicensed (SORN'd), enabling Go North East to obtain a tax refund.
March 2020 Go North East Due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there is falling customer demand and available resources. Therefore, to combat this during these unprecedented times, Go North East has reduced its service levels from Monday 23 March to run enhanced Sunday timetables rather than the full normal weekday output (Sunday service levels, plus some extra morning journeys for key workers, and a small number of contracted school/works services). As such - due to the lower number of vehicles being required at the moment - a number of transfers have taken place to ensure services are operated by the most fuel-efficient, economic and reliable buses. One such transfer is of this vehicle from Chester-le-Street Depot to Percy Main, in order to operate "Coaster" services 1/1A, allowing the Volvo B5 Hybrid vehicles to be temporarily withdrawn from service owing to their unique nature and high maintenance costs (which are all outsourced to Volvo Bus & Coach).
May 2019 Go North East In line with service changes and the introduction of new brand identities, there were a large number of vehicle re-allocations which took place on Sunday 19 May, the significance of which have been likened to the South Shields and Bishop Auckland depot closures in 2005 and 2006 respectively. This vehicle has transferred from Riverside Depot to Chester-le-Street, where it should see primary allocation to services 13/14/25/X22.
April 2019 Go North East Photograph by In line with the operation of "Toon Link" services 6 and X31 transferring from Stanley Depot to Riverside, this vehicle has also transferred to Riverside. Although this vehicle isn't branded as "Toon Link", it will form part of the PVR of services 6 and X31.
October 2017 Go North East With the "Toon Link" branded Scania CN230UB/Scania Omnicity vehicles having been fitted with free customer Wi-Fi to improve the customer experience on the services which these vehicles are allocated to; this vehicle has also been fitted with free customer Wi-Fi, acting as the dedicated spare vehicle for the single-deck allocation on these routes.

December 2016 Go North East Photograph by This vehicle has been treated to a partial repaint into Go North East's new corporate livery. The new livery design is a a lot more eye-catching and features a two-tone base livery, with the traditional key colour of red towards the front of the bus, and non-metallic dark blue towards the back. It is thought that further vinyls will be added at a later date, in order to reflect the quality and customer values of Go North East.
November 2016 Go North East Photograph by Following service changes taking place on Sunday 6th November 2016 which saw the operation of service 9 (Sunderland - North Shields) transfer from Percy Main Depot to Deptford, this vehicle has transferred from Percy Main Depot to Washington, acting as a dedicated spare vehicle for "Whey Aye Five 0" services 5 and 50, providing fleet standardisation at Washington Depot and a consistent vehicle specification for customers on these services.
April 2013 Go North East Photograph by Go North East stated in a customer consultation to review the 9 and X3 services that the company wished to increase the frequency of service 9 (Sunderland - Boldon - Jarrow - North Shields) to every 20 minutes across the whole route and introduce route branding to the service. Customers did not favour these plans, and alternative service changes being introduced meant that the plan to brand 5247, 5248, 5249 and 5274 did not go ahead. Instead, these vehicles have gained large 'Northern' fleet names.
