Vehicle History

June 2020 Go North East Photograph by With most scholars services in Tyne & Wear returning to operation from Monday 15 June, re-allocations have taken place to accommodate the operation of all of these services. Services 13 and 25 at Chester-le-Street will now be operated by single-deck vehicles to assist in the release of double-deck vehicles for scholars. As such, this vehicle has been reinstated at Chester-le-Street Depot.
June 2020 Go North East Photograph by From Monday 1 June 2020, in line with guidance from the government, Go North East's bus services will start returning to what can be considered a 'normal' level of service on weekdays (albeit still reduced on weekends), also with some minor changes which had originally been planned to take place from 17 May 2020. As such, this vehicle has now been re-licensed, but remains out of service.
April 2020 Go North East Following completion of all required vehicle re-allocations; this vehicle has been temporarily withdrawn from service due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been officially delicensed (SORN'd), enabling Go North East to obtain a tax refund.
March 2020 Go North East Due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there is falling customer demand and available resources. Therefore, to combat this during these unprecedented times, Go North East has reduced its service levels from Monday 23 March to run enhanced Sunday timetables rather than the full normal weekday output (Sunday service levels, plus some extra morning journeys for key workers, and a small number of contracted school/works services). As such - due to the lower number of vehicles being required at the moment - a number of transfers have taken place to ensure services are operated by the most fuel-efficient, economic and reliable buses. One such transfer is of this vehicle from Chester-le-Street Depot to Percy Main, in order to operate "Coaster" services 1/1A, allowing the Volvo B5 Hybrid vehicles to be temporarily withdrawn from service owing to their unique nature and high maintenance costs (which are all outsourced to Volvo Bus & Coach).
May 2019 Go North East Photograph by As a result of recent service changes and consequent re-allocations, this vehicle has lost its "Blue Arrow" branding having been repainted into Go North East's 2019 fleet livery. The experimental blue front end has now been discontinued, and no further repaints are intended to include this colour on the front.
May 2019 Go North East In line with service changes and the introduction of new brand identities, there were a large number of vehicle re-allocations which took place on Sunday 19 May, the significance of which have been likened to the South Shields and Bishop Auckland depot closures in 2005 and 2006 respectively. This vehicle has transferred from Percy Main Depot to Chester-le-Street, where it should see primary allocation to services 13/14/25/X22.
February 2018 Go North East Photograph by Following repaint and the application of branding; this vehicle has returned to service at Percy Main Depot, where it will now be allocated to "Blue Arrow" service 11 (Whitley Bay - Metrocentre).
February 2018 Go North East In order to upgrade the "Blue Arrow" 11 service, which operates between Whitley Bay and the Metrocentre, via Wallsend, Newcastle and Gateshead, Scania CN230UB/Scania Omnicitys 5266 - 5273 are to be cascaded to the route in line with the entry into service of the former "Angel" branded Volvo B5LH/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2s on the "Coaster" 1/1A services. This allows passengers on this route to benefit from high-backed Esteban Civic V3 seating and the provision of free Wi-Fi, and will lead to the withdrawal of the Scania L94UB/Wright Solar vehicles currently allocated. Following repaint and prior to returning service at Percy Main, this vehicle has received "Blue Arrow" branding.
February 2018 Go North East Released following the entry into service of the former "Angel" branded Volvo B5LH/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2s on the "Coaster" 1/1A services; this vehicle, which previously carried "Coaster" branding, has been repainted into a dark blue base livery.
December 2015 Go North East As part of a project to upgrade "Coaster" service 1 (Wrekenton - Gateshead - Whitley Bay), this vehicle has been fitted with free customer Wi-Fi. This follows a recent deep clean on all of the "Coaster" branded vehicles at Thornton Brothers, Ashington.
September 2013 Go North East Photograph by Coinciding with service changes effective 1st September 2013, this vehicle has received "Coaster" branding, with sub-branding for service 1 (Wrekenton - Whitley Bay).
August 2013 Go North East Photograph by Ahead of upcoming service changes which will see "Coaster" service 1 extend to Wrekenton via Low Fell and Harlow Green, replacing service 24 and providing customers on this route with a direct service to Newcastle, this vehicle has been repainted into a plain blue base livery. It is expected that the "Coaster" brand will be revised in line with the service changes, and the new brand design will focus on the coastal section of the route (Whitley Bay - North Shields).
