Vehicle History

July 2020 Go North East Photograph by Following repaint, this vehicle has received "X-lines" branding for services X45/X46/X47. The iconic Red Kite symbol, which has been prominent on the services running between Consett and Newcastle since 2007, has been retained in the branding, both externally and internally, where fun facts about these iconic birds can be found on the cove panels. It has now returned to service at Consett.
July 2020 Go North East Photograph by In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the vastly reduced revenue income being generated currently, nine of Go North East's new Wright StreetDecks will be 'diverted' to Oxford Bus Company. In return, Go North East will take seven of Oxford Bus Company's surplus interdeck Volvo B11RT/Plaxton Elitei coaches, for use on services X9 & X10 between Newcastle and Middlesbrough. This will displace the Volvo B5TLs currently allocated to these services to operate service X21 at Chester-le-Street instead, with the aim of improving reliability and fleet standardisation. As such, this vehicle has received a partial (back-end) repaint into the light green variant of the "X-lines" livery, for services X45/X46/X47.
June 2020 Go North East Photograph by From Monday 1 June 2020, in line with guidance from the government, Go North East's bus services will start returning to what can be considered a 'normal' level of service on weekdays (albeit still reduced on weekends), also with some minor changes which had originally been planned to take place from 17 May 2020. As such, this vehicle has transferred from Consett Depot to Chester-le-Street.
April 2020 Go North East Photograph by In order to combat the changing demand for bus services in the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, this vehicle has transferred from Riverside Depot to Consett.
March 2020 Go North East Photograph by On March 23 2020, Boris Johnson placed the country on "lockdown", enforcing rules on people only leaving the house to shop for necessities, to exercise once a day, for medical needs or to provide care, or to travel to and from work (if they can't work from home). Shops, pubs, restaurants and theatres have all been closed, as well as mass gatherings being banned, schools being closed, and sporting events being cancelled. Therefore, further changes were made to bus timetables from Saturday 28 March, reflecting a mass reduction in customer demand for buses. As part of these timetable revisions; Chester-le-Street, Percy Main and Washington Depots were temporarily 'mothballed' with services operated out of key depots Consett, Deptford (including Peterlee outstation) and Riverside (including Hexham outstation) only. Therefore, this vehicle has transferred from Chester-le-Street Depot to Riverside.
January 2020 Go North East Photograph by This vehicle has received branding for "X-lines" service X21.
January 2020 Go North East Having previously carried "Angel" branding, this vehicle has been repainted into a four-colour base livery, comprising of gold and blue colours. This change comes as a result of service revisions, which has seen the frequency of "Angel" service 21 reduce between Chester-le-Street and Durham, with more journeys now running as an express X21.
January 2018 Go North East Photograph by This vehicle has entered service at Chester-le-Street Depot on "The Angel" service 21 (Durham - Chester-le-Street - Newcastle).
January 2018 Go North East Prior to entering service, this vehicle has received "The Angel" branding.
January 2018 Go North East Photograph by This vehicle, which carries a two-tone green and yellow base livery, has arrived into the Go North East fleet. It is currently being prepared for service at Saltmeadows Road Depot. Representing an investment of approximately £4.3 million, this batch of vehicles have been ordered to upgrade "Angel" service 21, which is currently allocated Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B5LHs, partially funded by a grant of £1,119,235 in Round 3 of the Green Bus Fund in 2012. These vehicles feature the latest technology, and are fitted with the third generation of Wrightbus' Micro-Hybrid system. This system allows a 21% fuel and CO2 saving; and is achieved by carrying through the technologies from the previous two generations of the Micro-Hybrid systems, as well as additional features being added, such as a third smart alternator to power new electric features such as an electric air compressor, which reduces engine load and fuel consumption. As well as this, the vehicles feature Euro 6 stop/start engines. Internally; they feature Esteban Civic V3 seating complete with leather and soft topper foam for added comfort; four tables on the upper saloon; two-colour Tarabus 'Wood Effect' flooring; and blue accent lighting, which is fitted underneath seats and on the stairwell, to provide extra light on the gangway. A first for Go North East; this batch of vehicles also includes a glass staircase, for added style and again providing further light on the stairwell. Like all new vehicles; they feature Wi-Fi, 'Next Stop' audio-visual announcements and USB connections as standard, though these vehicles also feature three-pin power sockets on the upper saloon tables.
