(29 Apr 2024, 4:53 pm)mb134 It always makes me laugh when they bring out terms like this. You've had a fire lads, everyone can see it.

Can guarantee the driver didn't ring for the Serious Thermal Incident brigade.

Even the fire brigade spokesperson confirmed it had been a fire they put out and not a thermal!

Quote: The driver and passengers had already been evacuated from the bus before the crews attended the incident, and firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels to extinguish the fire safely. Our crews left the incident location at 11.19 am.”

So 6146 burned up on re-entry from Orbit.

Groan.

And, let me guess. The bus was on its way up that bank. The bus is old. The bus is probably not as well maintained as it could be. That bit might be glossed over.

(26 Apr 2024, 10:51 pm)Andreos1 They let a 21 branded decker on to the X10 today
If there's clearly issues at Riverside, GNE need a single uniformed fleet for the X10 & X21 with more muscle than a StreetDeck and with enough rotation so that 6352-55 aren't getting a daily hammering on the X10!

I've said something similar previously.

The X1 (now X12) and the X10 did just that.
Hard slog up and down the A19, followed by recovery on the slower and easier X1.

Presumably, operators don't believe in interworking like they did previously.
However, they do seem to prefer slogging a vehicle to death rather than making the interworking a feasible alternative.

It's ironic that the operators laziness, sees them kill their vehicles. Whereas the exact opposite, would surely prolong the reliability of them.

Having a uniformed fleet doesn't fix reliability though.

Getting that feeling having 6359 on X21 today, struggled to break around 35mph on the A1(M) this morning due to being uphill Newcastle bound and now got it again back to Durham still absolutely basting hot air from the back downstairs and is 15 minutes late (tight timetabling being another hindrance to service reliability they seem to like doing) with an also late Durham bound 21 just behind us.

Good job Arriva upped the 7 to half hourly on Sundays, means I only have to stand around Durham like a fanny for 25 mins and not 55 mins now, thanks to missed connections.

I'll take the car/train next time, thanks GNE.

Just been looking at bustimes and it has barely had a chance to get a top up of diesel, never mind a clean or any mechanical attention.

In your example, is it that the “slower and easier X1” aided recovery after a hard slog on the A19, or is it that heavier weight buses were used back then which were better suited (and modern stock just isn’t cut out for the work that operators use them on, but there is no alternative)?

Vr's and Metrobuses weren't that heavy were they?
Probably a lot more underpowered and definitely more thirsty than their modern counterparts too.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Rapidsnap - 05 May 2024

More electronics on vehicles causing them to go into limp mode.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Ambassador - 05 May 2024

Although the data will never be public, it would be interesting to compare 'off road' and 'failure' rates at GNE vs other subsidaries.

Whilst we always take colleague comments on here with a pinch of salt but also backed up by social media... Riverside engineering team doesn't appear to have a stellar reputation

Its a bank holiday so I'll end with a positive...since most Angel streetdecks are so wrecked they are only trusted on the 51/2 and the 93/4....the fact once made it all the way to middlesbrough is cause for a street party

It'll be interesting to compare Streetdeck's / B5TL's with anyone more than anything, especially earlier vehicles. They seem pretty awful vehicles beyond hating the windows or whatever wherever they are. I know Arriva London have 10 16 Plates and they've been allocated to nothing for nearly a year now and are just sitting round doing nothing which is rather ironic when other areas are desperate for deckers and some areas ie. Leeds already have some.

6949 currently on Durham Road, Lanchester, side of the road, smoking awayyyyyyy! (might be steam!)

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Andreos1 - 15 May 2024

Noted 5400 looking forlorn the other evening.

It's drivers wingmirror had either been broken or, tucked in away from the traffic.
It certainly wasn't sticking out like it should do.

If it was tucked in, I'm guessing the driver had seen all the reported wingmirror issues mentioned on here and was playing safe.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - DeltaMan - 24 May 2024

After literally years of never been on a bus which has broken down, I've now been on my third in a week. That cannot be a coincidence, all 62 plate Volvo deckers.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - ne14ne1 - 26 May 2024

Noticed a Cobalt branded B9 this morning with the old GNE logo removed, (which was positioned between the wheels on this batch), and it give a bit of a cleaner & less cluttered look.
From what I could make out however, at least on one side, the old ‘Journeys taken care of’ strap line was still there, which could’ve done with being removed too IMO.

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Rob44 - 26 May 2024

Yesterday there seem like dozens of the dual door bus out and about, mostly on the 21. I always thought i read on here these were only going to be used for school service? Dont get me wrong i'm not bothered what bus turns up as long as it does. And if they are keeping the Centre doors why not use em??

RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet - Ambassador - 26 May 2024

I had the pleasure of 6325 on the Angel from the cannon to Newcastle today at around 10.50

What an utter disgrace. It stunk of vomit, there were empty McDonald’s wrappers everywhere, the bins were overflowing, empty drinks cans on the seats. Whatever vinyl had been on the table had been ripped off and jagged wooden base remained. There’s absolutely no way that vehicle was cleaned before it went into service

It’s to a point where I dread an actual angel turning up as at the least the trundling Ex London heaps are vaguely clean

Sounds like it's been on the N21 and it didn't get cleaned before it went out on the morning. Hopefully it at least got some diesel.
