(20 Apr 2023, 8:21 pm)Theboyle92 See growing up in Silksworth all i can remember was the X90 to Ryhope-Newcastle was later extended to Seaham in Early 2000s mainly ran by Optare Spectras and the odd B10M Plaxton Verde, was the X91/97 Ran in the early 90s ?

Yea , remember the x90, hated those Optare spectra’s moulded things, especially on the x94.

Yea the x91/x97 was roughly mid 90’s, remember doing training at felling, and afterwards walking down to the bus stop on felling bypass as both served the bus stop and had bus numbers stickers on the plate sign, just wished the drivers knew that the service stops there, as the x91 driver didn’t stop and looked puzzled, then the x97 arrived and had to jam its brakes on to stop, and the Redby driver didn’t realise the service stopped there, probably really didn’t pick many up along there while it was operational.

Downstairs, rear seats on Spectra's. Worst seats ever. Even worse than the much talked about Urban 90s.

Surely they can't be worse than the pointless half depth rear seats on some of the omnidekkas?

These are probably the worse seats I've found on the bus. Yes they are padded but they give very poor back support.

These were on an ex Derby City Transport Volvo Citybus bodied by Marshall.

Merseyside PTE specified this seat design for a period as shown one the sole remaining Quest 80 B-Type. It also has the dual purpose version of the seats too.

(18 Apr 2023, 10:00 pm)Storx In fairness the contracts are only Euro 5 and they've been around since 2009 now.

If some operator can't get a bus past 2009 then there's something seriously wrong and they probably shouldn't be anywhere near running them.

Any which are Euro 6, bar a few exceptions, are because of the LEZ and even those have been around since 2015 now, it's just the issue NE operators haven't bothered to invest lately and for Stagecoach and Arriva it was well before Covid.

Thanks for this as I thought it was Euro 6. It just seems that a lot of the independent operators are buying new or fairly new buses when they get awarded a contract. The likes of GCT for example always seem to be buying new/nearly new buses for their Nexus contracts. Now you've mentioned it though I've just remembered JH Coaches use a few 09 plates for their Nexus routes but they seem to be the exception.

Another thing I can't understand is how come some operators are required to paint their vehicles into Nexus livery while others are allowed to use their normal fleet livery?

(20 Apr 2023, 11:04 am)cbma06 Yea well before dereg, does anybody know when Washington galleries was built, maybe the x4 was rerouted when the galleries opened maybe, as Washington Concord bus station was the main town centre a place to go in that era

I think the same as the originally X6 from Sunderland to Consett, used to take an hour from end to end, can’t do that these days even though it went straight along Chester road between Sunderland and Chester-le-street and later diverted to Washington galleries then diverted upto Langley park from Chester

Yea, used to get it a lot from Grindon Mill to Newcastle as when it only stopped at Hastings Hill then Concord then Gateshead then 2 stops in Newcastle , from Park Lane only took about 45 minutes, I think the x96 was similar time aswell, X4 took an hour.

The upstairs rear seats were even worse on the spectras. Some of them had absolutely no padding whatsoever! I think this might have been purposely done to deter school kids from vandalising or smoking etc. The spectras were a great bus though.

I believe Nexus livery was specified at one point and GNE, Arriva, Stanley Travel and GCT all obliged. Nowadays I don’t think it’s specified, and GCT adopted it as their fleet livery, at least in Tyne and Wear.

The Go North East website now shows the Arriva buses on the 306 and 308 services tracking on the 307 & 309 timetable pages so that you can see the buses on the combined headway.

Fantastic! A good proof of concept too.

Hopefully one day, we could have all operators plus the Metro on one Transport North East app! Timetables, journey planning and ticketing, in one place.
