I'm not sure but wasn't it one of the ones that got dumped in Chester depot for a bit?

Wish them the best of luck, imagine it'll be a pretty big task financially given the maintenance cost for Mercs!

Strange to see something so modern head into preservation, though I guess it really isn't that modern anymore.

Yeah, that wouldn't be one I'd want to tackle!

In about 20 years when the Streetdecks are worth about 50p I might pick one up, but I certainly wouldn't 'preserve' it. It'd be stripped out and turned into a camper!

GNE definitely made the Mercs look a lot younger than what they are, they are so much better than any of the versas, when they were took on the 35 passegners were asking why they got older buses (11/62 plate) Versas

5292 was one of the buses in storage at Chester-le-Street after the depot closed - every bus in storage there had more or less every window smashed, some 600 windows had to be replaced (or buses scrapped as a consequence). Six-figure sum repair bill, thanks to vandalism from mindless youths (and, of course, nothing could be done about it).

GNE cut the windows out of another scrap Citaro to donate to 5292 and allow it to carry on in preservation.

Nothing could be done? Or nothing was chosen to be done?

Was there not security at the site? Or the option to provide a permanent security presence?

Wistfully stuck in the 90s

So during the period of time CLS was used for storage was the depot not locked up, I recall the maintainance exit had shutters and the main entrance had a gate, did the side entrance closest to the roundabout have gates as it was always open access whenever I passed even on late evenings.

I can't think of any other way the depot would be accessible as the walls were quite high even backing onto the dual carriage way,

The depot was locked up.

The kids jumped over the side wall by the petrol station. Given the ground wasn’t level, certain points were easy enough to climb over.
