Representing an investment of approximately £7.5m (partly funded by the Green Bus Fund), this batch of vehicles are believed to be in line to upgrade high-frequency cross-city routes 39 and 40. Following the entry into service of new "Red Arrows" branded Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TLs on service X1 (Newcastle - Washington - Easington Lane), this vehicle has been released for cascade and has transferred from Washington Depot to Deptford. Pending the introduction of a new service to be held under the "Red Arrows" brand, this vehicle will temporarily be allocated to service 5 (South Shields - Jarrow), retaining "Red Arrows" branding albeit with the cant rail having been stripped of vinyls.
