In order to standardise the Arriva North East and Arriva Yorkshire double-deck fleets, an exchange of Wright Eclipse Geminis is taking place. Arriva North East will lose their Volvo B5 Hybrid vehicles following the end of their Volvo maintenance contract, in exchange for more-familiar VDL DB300 examples. This vehicle, previously with Arriva Yorkshire as their fleet number 1542, has now joined the Arriva North East fleet, where it has been allocated fleet number 7637.
Following repaint and the application of branding; this vehicle has returned to service at Percy Main Depot, where it will now be allocated to "Blue Arrow" service 11 (Whitley Bay - Metrocentre).
Prior to entering service, this vehicle has received "Toon Link" branding. A new vinyl has also been added to the first window on the nearside, close by the doors, which promotes the ability to pay by a contactless card on Go North East buses for any single, return or day tickets. As well as allowing the standard VISA and Mastercard credit and debit cards, payment via Apple and Android Pay on mobile devices is also permitted. The vinyl aims to catch the eye of those in a queue boarding the bus, promoting the ease of travelling on Go North East buses, with there no longer being a need to carry the correct amount of change to travel.
In order to upgrade the "Blue Arrow" 11 service, which operates between Whitley Bay and the Metrocentre, via Wallsend, Newcastle and Gateshead, Scania CN230UB/Scania Omnicitys 5266 - 5273 are to be cascaded to the route in line with the entry into service of the former "Angel" branded Volvo B5LH/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2s on the "Coaster" 1/1A services. This allows passengers on this route to benefit from high-backed Esteban Civic V3 seating and the provision of free Wi-Fi, and will lead to the withdrawal of the Scania L94UB/Wright Solar vehicles currently allocated.
