RE: BSIP Improvement Suggestions
(3 hours ago)Storx wrote To be fair, it's a Nexus issue here mind.

They all used ITSO (https://www.itso.org.uk/) and still do, including the mobile stuff (https://www.yotra.co.uk/)

It's not the operators fault for lack of any tickets, they have the equipment. It's Nexus for not doing any tickets; Swift in the West Midlands is using the same system, the difference is there's actually works and the one up here is an embarrassment, and that's being complimentary.

OK, let's say it's Nexus fault in T&W.
What about in the other areas? Why wasn't there any joined up thinking in Durham or Northumberland?
Why didn't any of the operators bang their heads together on Teesside?

Got to remember, this is well before NECA or TVCA came about.

The pot of money was there and everyone went off on their own tangent, doing their own thing and implementing their own smart-cards.

Other than the odd Smartzone (like in South Shields), there's been nothing.
It's been 10 years since the big, initial push.

Aye no arguments there, but to fair Northumberland and Co. Durham were totally independent and are rural councils really.

It's all a mess tbh. I don't get why all the regional areas didn't work together and do one scheme which they all used the same system. Rather than every area going on their own way and there being mixed results.

The Key mind was part of it though, to give some credit to GoNorthEast - I don't do it much.

The fact that Network One still exists imo is just embarrassing, this should've been moved across years ago now. There's just no excuse for it.

To avoid charges of collusion between private operators, these schemes must be initiated and administered by the local authorities and they simply don't have the resource.

Ticketing appears fragmented in the north east because local authority leaders let that happen. Simple as that. West Yorkshire proves what could be done, even under a deregulated model.

If we want better ticketing, get a better transport authority
