More misery on the horizon for Arriva Northumbria?

They've been happy enough to pay agency drivers £16 plus an hour for the last 18 months or so to cover shortages, yet take the piss out of their employees with starting rates of £10/hr.

However, as usual despite all their promises and hot air, the union will recommend accepting a derisory offer after Arriva fiddle with the figures a few times to try and make it look more attractive.

This screams of the Union doing a full 180 from their usual approach to be honest. The offer of over 10% (I've heard a figure of £14/hr, so a 10.7% raise from the current £12.65) isn't bad in the current climate, especially with inflation dropping, but I don't believe it was even put to members. 

A change from the past approach of them recommending members accept shockingly bad offers.

I know the current (useless) head union rep is retiring either this year or next, so he probably does not care about rocking the boat with Arriva now as his cushy little number is coming to an end soon. He recommended accepting 3% last year......

Given the way Arriva have responded to strikes last year and early part of this year, I don't expect any Arriva services to operate at all.

They will happily park the fleet up and save the money. The union always come back for a deal pretty much identical to the what they walked out on. Look at Yorkshire last year and North West.

An offer of 10.8% was rejected, still waiting on Arriva coming back with another offer.

Pay deal accepted, top rate up to £14.15/hr, but you have to have worked for them over two years to get it.

Surprised they've offered that much.

Be interesting to see what happens elsewhere now that ANU is £14.15 and Stagecoach Sunderland is (I believe) £13.57. The £12.83 at GNE in particular isn't looking very attractive but can't see them keen to offer another 10% which is pretty much the gap. It was struggle to get it to that never mind more.

Stagecoach Walkergate could be interesting aswell considering you can get another quid for walking across the car park. (Applications are £13.08 there).

The nature of the timeline of pay deals means that GNE are due another pay award in just a few months…

10% on £12.83 would take the rate to £14.11.

We're about to go to £13.80-something from May at Stagecoach Newcastle.

If you can get passed the pitfalls of shifts, dealing with the public etc, I personally think £14.15 doesn't sound too bad. Looking at the Arriva website though, I still the presentation of their offer is terrible. How can they quote £10.00 an hour starting rate at Ashington for example, if minimum wage is £10.42? Listing the hours as 'full time' isn't much help either when it's hourly paid. Big difference between being paid for 36 hours a week or 39 hours a week.

Does anyone know how long you have to work for arriva to get on to top rate. And also if you already hold a PCV license do you go straight on to top rate.
