It's a genuinely useful piece of public transport. I use it quite often for leisure purposes and my mates from around the country are always fascinated what a great service it is. Every time I use it there's a decent load of passengers too.

Don't know. Don't care.
It provides a link that nothing else does or seems willing to provide.
Said it before, but I do think the river should be utilised more.

Numbers carried prior to covid.
420,000 was it's lowest number prior to covid hitting.
Assuming half of those would be or could be using the tunnel via car, I'd say it's in everyone's interests to keep the ferry going.

£5m found
Appears that they're recycled this news story again, merely to get Kim's face on the cover: https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/nor...l-29645633
Chronicle article this week states "A total of £12.78 million was committed to the project by the North East Combined Authority's cabinet on Tuesday."
Yet they haven't actually committed anything. The article further breaks it down to:
- "An initial investment of £4.58 million was approved by the cabinet," - same figure quoted in the BBC article in April, before NECA existed.
- "A further £8.2 million from the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement will be allocated in the coming months to ensure that the scheme is fully funded." - CRSTS was a product of the Tory Govt, so I'm surprised they've received the cash at all.
Odd, but good news!
One question that I can't see answered anywhere, is how they're going to deal with the extended journey time? The new ferry landing is supposed to be located as shown on the map below, but that'd make the crossing distance thereabouts twice what it currently is.
They generally only use the one ferry all day now, with a 7 minute crossing time and about 8 minutes turnaround. If the increased distance results in a crossing time of around 13 minutes, I'm not sure how they'll keep it running on time.

No replacement bus either.
Pretty appalling if true.
Yeah there's a page on the Nexus website about it: https://www.nexus.org.uk/news/item/tempo...-timetable

Service update: Evening crossings to resume on Monday
We’re pleased to say that we are resuming our evening river crossings from Monday, 20 January.
This means that the Ferry timetable will return to normal after it was temporarily changed at the end of last year due to an unexpected challenge with crew availability.
This issue has now been resolved. We are grateful to customers for their patience while this period of disruption was in place.
Our evening crossings run from Monday to Saturday. From Mondays to Wednesdays these crossings operate though to 8pm; and from Thursdays to Saturdays there are crossings until 10.40pm.
Ferry services on Sundays are unchanged and will continue to run from 10.15am to 6pm.

I'm surprised, I don't think I've used the "ferry accept" on the 9 at all.

To be fair can't see anyone botherong. By the time you messed around with the 9 you might aswell head all the to Monument and change there instead.
Adding the time going from the Metro Station to the bus stop in a place people probably don't know you might aswell go the long way.

If you live in either of the Shields, you can jump on a metro heading to the other Shields and use the ferry to finish your journey.

But the terms say 1 Whole journey..... that's 2 part journeys isnt it?
To be fair I've jumped off at Gateshead Metro before and used that to get to ST James when im running late and never had anything said to me

A whole journey can involve multiple modes of transport. Like say getting the 4 to Heworth and jumping on the metro into town, that's 1 whole journey.

The wording of 'the ticket is valid for one journey to/from Newcastle City Centre. (A journey constitutes one single leg, no transfers/connections are permitted)' would be confusing as it reads as if a ferry to South Shields then a 27 or metro to newcastle isn't permitted.
The MMs are digital now with a QR code so I've got a screenshot of the T&Cs as twice this season a driver has told me they aren't eligible 3 hours after the end of a game and then grumbled when I've shown them
Wistfully stuck in the 90s
