No 43 this year? Or just not registered yet? Presumably Liberty Coaches will be running the X21, Northstar hopefully will be running the X18 again this year (possibly the 35 up to Ashington the same as last year) and I guess Stagecoach will be running the 308 contract.
RE: Christmas services
Liberty Coaches will be running the 43 this Boxing Day. Not sure about the X21.

The 43 is Liberty's only route this year. The 35, X18 and X21 will be run by the same operator.
RE: Christmas services
I think Liberty only have 2 deckers now. The Yellow Omnicity and the Party Bus Dennis Trident, so if they have the 43 they won't be able to bid for anything else. They'll require both to be in working order that day. Maybe their Versa will be the back up.

The 43 is contracted for a minimum of 44 seats, with 3x buses, so single decks are permitted.
RE: Christmas services
43 half-hourly? X10/X11, X18, X21, X22 all hourly? Presumably it must be Northstar or Stagecoach for the 7, 35/X18 and X21?
307 and 308 both half-hourly? Stagecoach running the 308?

Based on a recent Northstar post, it would seem they are running the 35 and X18 again this year.

Northumberland's secured 43 will be every 30 minutes with the X10/X11, X18, X21, X22 and 35 running hourly.
RE: Christmas services
43, X10/X11, X18/35, X21 and X22 are Northumberland County Council contracts?
Go North East stuff is all Nexus contracts, apart from the 21 is commercial from Birtley to CLS? Is the 307 a Nexus or Northumberland contract?
All of the Stagecoach routes are commercial, apart from the 7 and 308, which are Nexus contracts?

NCC are contracting the 43/X10/X11/X18/X21/X22/35 yes. Remainder of routes are Nexus, however some operators running some routes part or fully commercially.

Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
RE: Christmas services
Disappointing that yet again appeals from employers for the X39 to run were ignored
Thankfully stagecoach step up with the 22X

That is ridiculous.
Look at the X21, X5/X15/ 50/ 65/ X21, The Consett X's.
Some massively lost runs on the morning

It's been a Saturday timetable over the Christmas period (not just Christmas Eve) for like forever hasn't it? Feels like they have anyway
RE: Christmas services
The PDF attached to the Boxing Day X22 page is for the last Metrocentre X22 timetable effective September 2021. You couldn't make this sort of ineptitude up.
I wonder if the recent success of another operator's efforts at the X22 has led to this 4 year old timetable being so close to hand.

The 56 isn't listed under Boxing Day services, but has a timetable if you change the date to 26/12/2025 on the 56 page.
No timetable for the 6, so maybe another operator has it this year?
53 running, but no 54. Can't remember if the 54 ran on Boxing Day in 2023. Don't think it did last year.
306 running this year or just the 307 every 30 minutes? Stagecoach haven't mentioned it and can't see anyone else having it. Be good to see Northstar on it.

Northstar are running the M43 this year between Stanley and Newcastle, commercially, in lieu of the 6. Sadly no 308 though!

Interestingly the 6 is on Traveline for Boxing Day. Makes sense only running the 307 and not the 308 as every 30 minutes is likely adequate.
So to summarise for anyone who likes a list all in one place:
Arriva
43 - Liberty Coaches
X10/X11 - GNE
X18/35 - Northstar
X21 - Northstar / X22 - GNE
GNE:
4, 10/10A, 21, 47, 49/49A, 51/52, 53, 56, 301, 307, Northstar M43 instead of the 6 and extended to Stanley, X1 and X66
Stagecoach
1, 7, 10/11, 12, 22, 30/31/36, 38, 39/40, 62/63, X47 and X88
40 doesn't run to/from Wallsend, 62 doesn't run to/from Throckley.

Traveline shows a week summary of the 6, and correctly states in the notes that it doesn’t operate on Boxing Day
RE: Christmas services
And again.. No service after 7pm two days and no service at all for two days. Yet this is meant to be a service for the public.
Before bus drivers say we deserve time off with our families - yes you do, but also the public need to be able to get around without using expensive taxis....
Its not 1950 anymore.

Have you ever been out on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve? Literally, everything dies off mid afternoon, especially on Christmas Eve, so what is the point of having buses running around carrying fresh air for the majority of the evening wasting money (since they'd have to pay drivers wages etc) when they can pull service earlier in the evening and get everything parked up ready for the next working day.
Sorry but every year you post this same rant - it's getting boring now......

When I had looked there was a Boxing Day 6 between Newcastle and Burnopfield listed separately. xx:25 past each hour from Eldon Square. Good to see it's been removed now. Hopefully the Northstar M43 between Newcastle and Stanley will be a success.
